Avaya introduce the next major release of the IP Office. The most noteworthy feature in Release 7 will be it’s ability to support the older Nortel M (M7208, M7310) and T (T7208, T7316) sets.
Avaya hasn’t made a secret of their intentions or product roadmap in the SMB space. The delicate dilemma is that they have two of the markets best selling phone systems, and a move to discontinue either product will leave many frustrated. Much to the chagrin of the Nortel community Avaya had a very tough sell ahead. Either choose the BCM as the go forward product of choice and upset the Avaya community, or, choose the Avaya product as the go forward strategy and upset the Nortel community. I’ve made no secret of my frustration over the last many years with the BCM product and was relieved when they announced that the IP Office would be the product on a go forward basis.
